KRIYAKALPA

Social Service and skill promotion center has secured the Janapada Yakshgana Academy award for the year 2000, in recognition of its aspiration to state a creative Technology Museum, by the Department of Kannada and Culture of the State Government. This museum is a tone reflection of the SC and ST of the rural areas of Karnataka in many experiments like agricultural implements, Domestic articles, materials pertaining to learning, materials like Charaka (Spinning Wheel) reflecting the principle of Swedish Art and Paintings of the time of great painter Ravivarma, sports and play material of rural areas, old coins, sources relating to music, the stone grinders of the past, etc.,. These materials reveal or depict the culture hidden, to the modern age of technology through ‘Janapada Sahitya’. It has succeeded in blending together the past and the present technology; thousands of inland and foreign visitors, scientists, Researchers and thinkers are paying a visit to this center.
Objectives:

  • Creating awareness on the technological concepts in ancient and traditional objects.
  • Developing the museum as a research centre in Archeology and folklore to take advantage of the vast databank under one roof.

  • Awards Conferred: The following prestigious award was conferred by the state government for the extraordinary achievements carried out by a technical institution in the area of art and culture to keep up our cultural heritage.
    Karnataka Janapada Yakshgana awards-2000, conferred on Kriyakalpa by the Government of Karnataka
    Important Events:
    • Karnataka Janapada Yakshagana Academy–Janapadha Prasasthi 2000–Tumkur awarded on 6-6-2001;
    • Kannada Culture Department has sanctioned Rs.35,000/- towards maintenance of Kriyakalpa in the year 2000;
    • Kannada Culture Department has sanctioned Rs.1,00,000/- towards maintenance of Kriyakalpa in the year 2001;
    • Kagodu Thimmappa the then Minister of Kannada and Culture visited Kriyakalpa in 2000–2001;
    • Chandrahas Guptha, Secretary of Kannada and Culture visited Kriyakalpa in 2000–2001;

    ANCIENT ENGINEERING EDUCATION

    Dr. S.C. Sharma has set-up "Kriyakalpa"- a Techno-culture museum on the campus of R.V. College of Engineering, Bangalore. The museum, conceived and developed by Dr. S.C. Sharma, that gives meaning to anachronisms, aims at creating awareness on the ancient and traditional engineering contribution of India to the global technological development. Every object preserved here is celebrated for its technological significance, its folk relevance and its value as a piece of history. In the years to come, the museum will be of international standards attracting researchers in science, technology, history and archaeology, folklore to take advantage of a vast databank under one roof.
    Indian culture is richly rooted in the rural mass and rural festivals depict our culture. He has got plans of videotaping folk dances, songs, etc preparing compact disks of the same and preserving them for reference. The museum has received the patronage from the department of Kannada and Culture, Government of Karnataka.
